How to obtain a post study work visa in the UK
Immigration laws have changed recently in the UK as it is now based on a points system. Now, in order to apply for a post study work visa you need to achieve a number of points to be able to stay and work in the UK.
What is a post study work visa?
It is Tier 1 on the points based system and is needed by applicants who have studied in the UK and want to stay on after graduation to work. It replaces schemes such as the International Graduates Scheme (IGS) and the Science and Engineering Graduates Scheme (SEGS).
How should apply for a post study work visa in the UK?
If you not European national or from Switzerland, you will need to apply under the new points base system if you want to stay in the UK to work. In addition, you will need to apply if you are currently a student under former schemes such as IGS or if you are currently studying. Dependents of applicants will need to fill out an additional application form.
Applicants from specific countries will need to apply in a slightly different manner by registering with the Worker Registration Scheme. The affected countries include Estonia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland and Hungary. Furthermore, nationals from Romania and Bulgaria should not apply for the visa unless they have been given permission form work permit experts.
On the other hand, those who do not need to apply include EEA nationals, Swiss nationals and citizens of the Commonwealth with permission to stay in the UK.
How do work permit experts calculate the number of points needed?
Applicants who are able to speak the English language will be awarded 10 points. Likewise, if you have money and funds available to support yourself in the UK, you will be rewarded an additional 10 points. If the applicant has attended an educational institution or university in the UK they will qualify for 75 points. This will also consider your immigration status at the time of research or study, the type of qualification and when it was rewarded. If applicants do not achieve the total 95points , it is unlikely they will get a work permit.
How much does the visa cost?
An application will cost £315. This amount will not be returned if the application is rejected however it may be returned if it is simply withdrawn.
