Do I need a job to apply for a post study work visa UK?
Are you coming to the end of your undergraduate or postgraduate qualification and want to stay on in the UK? Perhaps you want to apply for a post study work visa that will give you the opportunity to stay on in the UK to find work. You certainly may have a lot of questions that need answered and this article will try to answer a few of the queries you may have.
One of the most important concerns you may have is that you do not actually have a job lined up yet for when you finish your course. In addition, you may not have managed to secure sponsorship from a UK based company and are now worried that your application for tier 1 post study work visa may be rejected. First of all- do not worry as work permit consultants state that you do not need to have a job lined up or you do not need sponsorship. Ideally if you did have something lined up, it may make things easier for you however things do not always work out as easy as we would have liked them to. When applying for the post study work visa applicants will need to prove that they have enough money to support themselves while looking for a job.
What if you cannot find a job straight away? How long can you stay in the UK with this type of visa? If your application is successful, the UK Government policy on immigration states that you are able to remain in the country for two years. There is no restriction on the type of work that you do, however you need to apply for the visa within twelve months of finishing your course. Likewise, you need to wait until you have actually obtained your qualification from the educational institution before applying for the permit.
If you are still studying at present, although you cannot apply for the visa just yet, there is no reason why you cannot look into the application process itself and seek answers to any questions you may have. By contacting the immigration consultants at the UK border agency directly you can explain any personal circumstances you may have. For example, if you have children you will need to apply for a separate visa for them by filling out an additional application form. By speaking to advisors at your university welfare office you will also be able to check if the course or qualification you have completed actually entitles you to apply. Some qualifications may not be suitable for you to apply for the visa so it is better to find out in advance before you submit your application and fee.
