What additional documents do I need when applying for a post graduate visa?
After finishing a university degree or postgraduate qualification, UK government policy on immigration now states that you need to apply for a post study work visa. In order to apply for this post graduate visa you need to fill out an application form, pay a fee and attach additional documents.
When submitting your application for a post graduate visa you need to be sure you fill out all sections correctly and most importantly you need to make sure you attach all the correct documents. Work permit consultants advise applicants to supply full contact details for all documents you supply and provide a description with each piece of supplementary material.
So what documents do you need when applying for a post study work visa? An application can only be submitted for a visa once you complete the course you have been studying. One piece of documentation that needs to be submitted is the original certificate of your graduation or proof that you have finished your course.
To apply for a post study work visa you need to check this certificate has your name, name of the qualification and place of study included on it. This should also be accompanied by an original letter from the university or college you have attended while studying in the UK.
When applying for a post study work visa on the new points based system, you also need to provide evidence that you will have available funds or money to support yourself while looking for work after you complete your study. This evidence can be provided by sending the immigration authorities bank statements from the past three months. If this is unavailable, you can also supply a letter from your bank.
Additionally all of these supporting documents need to be accompanied by your travel documents or passport outlining your nationality and how long you have been in the UK for example. By sending in the original passport, the immigration authorities will be able to check your immigration status and confirm some of the information you have provided in your application for a visa.
Although you need to have passed your qualification before actually submitting your application (unless you have a letter from your college or institution) it is always a good idea to try to get hold of your documents well in advance. The last thing you need to think about when coming to the very end of your course with exams and assignments to prepare is to start searching for a copy of a particular document. If you prefer the more relaxed approach and deal with things as they arise, you can wait until you finish your course as you are able to apply for the visa up to twelve months after obtaining your degree or course certificate.
